The only band I'll turn the radio over if I hear one of their tunes.

Re: U2
I seem to remember a previous U2 discussion on WHO. I can't remember who said it but they said 'u2 write music for people who have given up on life '

I don't actually hate them, I'm not really that bothered by them and just don't listen to them. Not a.massive fans of all their songs that sound the same with the twangy guitar, the wrap around glasses and the woolly hat!

I never really listened to the stuff post Joshua Tree. Early stuff is good

The Edge was born in Barking but I've yet to see him wear a claret & blue bobble hat, the cunt.

This is about pop music isn't it. Who gives a fuck?

I don't think anyone is actually angry, and I don't think hate really means hate on this thread.

Re: U2
It's very 'trendy' to hate U2.

All the cool kids are doing it.

U2 aren't anywhere as good as *insert obscure indie band no one has heard of*

Pagey

The purpose of the thread is obvious. Just another barely disguised anti Irish thread by the OP.

Ironically I was just listening to some of there stuff and thinking how brilliant they are , the likes of sometimes you can't make it own your own is a brilliantly written song. Even new stuff like the miracle of Joey ramone is excellent

They just ran out of ideas. I can't hate them for that.

Re: U2
I don't really understand the point of this thread. How can anyone be so angry about U2, Bono or The Edge to start a random thread about it on a West Ham message board?! Mental.

I'm not a huge fan but anyone that can churn out tracks like One or With or Without You is getting something right in life.

Re: U2
I think if you ask most people why they hate U2, they would point to the streets have no name, rooftop video which sums it up perfectly, it absolutely exudes god complex.

Re: U2

Is 'The unforgettable fire' their equivalent of The Manic Street Preachers' 'The Holy Bible'?

ie a great album by an otherwise shit band?

Saw them at The Lyceum back in late 70's when they were at their best.

Re: U2

I think the South Park episode where Bono was portrayed as a piece of shit (literally) delivered the message loud and clear.

Re: U2
Bono started going a bit weird after his mother died when he was a teenager. Just six years later he had a hit album, and has lived like a demi-god for nearly 35 years. As a result he and the rest of the band are inevitable oddballs and rub people up the wrong way with their flakey philiosophies and erm, questionable tax practices.

I'm not a fan, although inevitably "some of their early stuff was good". However I do think rock stars SHOULD be a bit crazy and SHOULD polarise opinion and piss off a lot of people.

Meh.

Re: U2
I'm sure Bono and the boys are really worried about how many people think they are cunts. The 1.2 million people who have paid to go and see them on their current world tour however are not among them, me included. It's become fashionable to 'hate Bono' but when you ask everyone why they do, they can't come up with a decent answer. The band, him included, make excellent music and put on a great show. That's why I'm going to see them again. If people don't like them, don't listen. Simple as that. Slagging someone off just because they've made a lot of money and have something to say about what goes on in the world is a little bitter and twisted.
